A Neat Passage

Here goes some scripture I read this morning. It seems very timely for a situation that I’m going to. For the full detail of the scripture, read the first chapter of Hosea also, but I really like this 2nd chapter.

Hosea 2

1 “Say of your brothers, `My people,’ and of your sisters, `My loved one.’
2 “Rebuke your mother, rebuke her, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
3 Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born; I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst.
4 I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery.
5 Their mother has been unfaithful and has conceived them in disgrace. She said, `I will go after my lovers, who give me my food and my water, my wool and my linen, my oil and my drink.’
6 Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.
7 She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, `I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.’
8 She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold– which they used for Baal.
9 “Therefore I will take away my grain when it ripens, and my new wine when it is ready. I will take back my wool and my linen, intended to cover her nakedness.
10 So now I will expose her lewdness before the eyes of her lovers; no one will take her out of my hands.
11 I will stop all her celebrations: her yearly festivals, her New Moons, her Sabbath days–all her appointed feasts.
12 I will ruin her vines and her fig trees, which she said were her pay from her lovers; I will make them a thicket, and wild animals will devour them.
13 I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot,” declares the LORD.
14 “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.
15 There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor[1] a door of hope. There she will sing[2] as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.
16 “In that day,” declares the LORD, “you will call me `my husband’; you will no longer call me `my master.[3] ‘
17 I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips; no longer will their names be invoked.
18 In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the creatures that move along the ground. Bow and sword and battle I will abolish from the land, so
that all may lie down in safety.
19 I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in[4] righteousness and justice, in[5] love and compassion.
20 I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.
21 “In that day I will respond,” declares the LORD– “I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth;
22 and the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine and oil, and they will respond to Jezreel.[6]
23 I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called `Not my loved one.[7] ‘ I will say to those called `Not my people,[8] ‘ `You are my people’; and they will say, `You are my God.'”

Verses 14-23 are what I really like. Even though Gomer was an adulterous, and did all these bad things, God still loved her, even though there were some things taken away from her. He did those things so that Gomer would seek God, and that God could allure her back to Him. What an interesting way to think…That God allures us and leads us to the desert so that He can speak tenderly to us. This passage sticks out to me because of a sermon I heard by Mike Pilavachi. He talked about how sometimes God leads us to the desert so that we might seek Him and strive after Him even more. Just to know that God thinks of us like this, wanting to allure us, wanting to bethroth us, is just so inviting, so comforting…

Ok yeah, going through some funk stuff right now, so pray for me if you can. Thanks.

The Last Month or So…

Looks like the last update has been just about a month ago. Camp happened like a week after the last update, along with some other interesting facts, that I won’t totally go into, but I will say that good results came out of it.

Camp was a good time, even if it was at Bethany, and people said they were bored all day. Fortunately I was swamped with things to do most of the time, running from the chapel, to chasing and playing with the Moccardini kids, to hanging out and studing for the bible quiz. The bible quiz was so fun, and I had a blast participating in it this year with Lisa and Patrick on my team. My only real complaint about Bethany and camp was that the sound system really stank at Bethany, but oh wells. The way God moved through camp was awesome, and it was really good to see so many of the young ones filled with the Holy Spirit. Wow, good time at camp. =)

Some other tidbits that of interest. School starts Monday, blah. Oh well. I bought a PlayStation 2, what fun. GT3!! whoooo. I finally got a copy of that Stephan King movie “It”. Spooky scary, wow. Ok, think that’s about it for this update. =)

Umm…past couple of weeks entries, hah!

Well a few weeks have now passed since I’ve done this journal. Not sure of the last time I did one, but it was a while ago. I was in SF for a LONG time (from July 3rd, up until last night) and stayed at my parents house. There is almost no food there, but that’s ok, since most of the nights I went out with friends to eat or what not (tuesday night is prayer night, wednesday is praise and prayer, friday is youth group). Big long weeks went by, but fun and adventerous.Time to catch up on highlights.

Hrm, ok, so I can’t access my journal right now, so I don’t remember what exactly happened the last time I updated….oh well. Things I remember happening was Angeline’s Birthday. We went over there and had a fun ol time, and got shaving cream all over her (and all over the street outside of the Lau residence). We wrapped up some of Ango’s own stuff and gave it to her, cuz the present we all chipped in for wasn’t bought yet (and still isn’t! aiya, oh well).
Hrm, what else went on…Janet, Melissa, Gordon, and Justin went to Florida to see Dawn. They just got back yesterday (well Justin two days ago) and they had a good trip, with some fun events and such, and good time hanging out with Dawn. Janet says she got crazier being there, haha. I think we jsut got tamer or something.

Baking, baking, baking, Wow, it was a long weekend

Hah, I don’t remember when my last journal entry was…prolly thursday. Pastor Kevin spoke well for his last Friday with us, before Pastor Sandra officially takes over. His message was a good one that I hope the Youth hold on to well. Eddie lead worship with Pat and Reese on guitars, and it went really well (well other than having to learn mostly new songs, but that’s ok). We went pretty long at church on Friday, but it was good, since we had an alter call and such, and everyone was still praying for awhile.

Saturday was a long day. I got up around 9:30, and didn’t really do much until about 2 oclock, when I had to get out of the house and buy some supplies for baking later that day. Went to safeway to get the stuff, like butter, milk, brown sugar, baking powder/soda, and some supplies for my pies that I was making. Lisa was bringing over flour and sugar, so I didn’t need to worry about that. Anyways, people were supposed to come on over at around 4, but the first person didn’t show up till 5, and we probably didn’t get started cooking (well, mine was partially done at around 6), until around 6. Cooking went the whole night with people coming into the house, and we finally ended at around 12:30 (well Gordon’s wasn’t done yet, he needed to put the top on it). In the end, we had, My 2 strawberry jello pies, Lisa’s lemon mirangue (I KNOW I spelled that wrong) and a choco-pie thing, Janet’s fruit tart (which looked AMAZING), Mel’s Candy Cheesecake, Lisa Chui’s Chocolate swirled cheesecake, Gordan’s fruit cheesecake, Eric’s choclate butterscotch cookies, and Ryan’s cinnamin bread. Went to sleep a little bit after they all left, hah, I was beat from standing for 8 hours, whooo.

Sunday, I picked up Justin (since he had his cake thing) and brought the 2 strawberry pies, Mel’s cheesecake, and Ryan’s bread loaf to church. Had worship practice early, then service. Pastor Kevin talked about America, and how it was founded upon knowing God, but how we have strayed so far from that, and how we need to get back to that, with revival in our lives, then our church, then this city and nation. It was a good sermon. Afterwards, we didn’t have class, but we got to sit around and talk a bunch with each other, and try to sell the baked goods. All in all, I think it went pretty well, I’m not sure how much we raised, but I was hoping that we would be able to get about 3 people to camp with the money raised (I dream big, hah). Not sure if we reached that goal, but I prayed that the night before, whooo. So if it happens, whooo, yea God! And if it doesn’t, still, yea God! Afterwards, we went over to Evelyn’s house and just kicked it around. Some of the girls left to go shop at the Espree Outlet (which I remember so fondly, when Derek and I sat in the Van, while Hoi, Oi, Alicia, and ANDREW went in to shop, and we listened to the 49ers Championship game against the Packers (they lost that time too I believe)). That was about it for the weekend, but it felt a lot longer, hehe =P
